1. Household plants
You should know about the plants present in your home and yard. If you have planted azalea, castor bean, oleander, sago palm, yew plant and Easter lily, then remove them because ingestion of these plants by your pet can be fatal. Some of them can even damage the kidney of your pets when swallowed.
2. Medications
Do not give any medicines to your pet unless prescribed by an expert veterinarian. Keep human medicines away from their reach because those can have dire consequences to them, even in small amounts. Apart from human medicines, chocolates are also highly poisonous for them, especially for canines like dogs. It is bad for other pets like cats and birds as well.
3. Cleaning agents
Keep cleaning agents away from your pets. Do not allow them to access the area where you have stored them. These agents have variety of consequences on pets.Some of them cause mild stomach problems, severe burning sensation in tongue or mouth and many other harmful effects. Apart from cleaning agents, keep insecticides and pesticides away from their reach.
4. Hydrogen peroxide
You should keep hydrogen peroxide with you to make your pet vomit in case of poisoning. Make sure you use it after consulting a veterinarian or poison centre.

There are certain plants and foods that cause harmful effects on animals. Tea and coffee grounds increases heart rate of pets, apple seeds are poisonous for birds, garlic and onion are extremely harmful for cats, so do not feed them food containing these items. Apart from these food items, keep your garbage and waste out of their reach as it can also harm them.
6. Automotive products
Products used in vehicles like gasoline, antifreeze, oil must be kept away from your pets. Teaspoon of antifreeze can be fatal for your cat and same goes for dog.

While checking your animals for fleas and ticks, use branded products and read all the procedures before using them. Follow the safety precautions given for you and your pet, especially while treating sick, pregnant and debilitated pets.

If you have bought a product or medicine for cat, do not use it on dogs and vice versa.

If you use these products, make sure that you rinse them after use. Pets often lick their paws and can ingest toxins.
